GUIRLANDE
(brim up pattern)

 

If you like Chevrefeuille, but don’t want to knit top down, you may knit Guirlande. The basic idea is the same. But the loops are hanging down on this hat (like a garland, a guirlande in French). And there is no star crown on top.

 

Brim

With MC, CO 68 sts. Divide sts over 3 dpn’s and join in the round, being careful not to twist.  Place m to mark beginning of row

Round 1 –  8: k2, p2 till end.

Round 9: k33, kfb, k33, kfb (70 sts)

 

Body of hat

Change to CC

Row 1: k3, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k2, repeat till end;

Row 2: knit

Row 3: k2, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk, k1, repeat till end;

Row 4: knit

Row 5: k1, k2tog, yo, k5, yo, ssk, k1, repeat till end

 

Change to MC

Row 6: knit

 

Change to CC2

Row 7: *k5, RLH, k1, LLH, k4, repeat till end.

 

Change to MC

Row 8: k5, ktog 3 loops, 1 st and 3 loops through back loop, k4, repeat till end

Round 25: k2tog, yo, k5, yo, ssk, repeat till end

Round 27: k4, RLH, k1, LLH, k4 Repeat till end.

Row 28: k4, ktog 3 loops, 1 st and 3 loops through back loop, k4, repeat till end

Row 30: sl1, *k2tog, k7, repeat till last s, ktog last and first sts (56 sts)

Round 37: *k1, LLH, k6, RLH, repeat from*

 

Change to MC

Round 38: ktog 1 st with 3 loops, *k7, ktog 3 loops, 1 st and 3 loops, repeat from *. End of round: pass last 3 loops over 1st st.

Round 39: knit

Round 40: k3, *sl1, k2tog, psso, k5, repeat 5 more times, sl1, k2tog, psso, k2 (42 sts)

 

Change to CC:

Round 41: knit

Round 42: k2, k2tog, 10 times, k2 (32 sts)

Round 43: knit

Round 44: k1, 2tog, 10 times, k2 (22 sts)

Round 45: knit

Round 46: k2tog till end (11 sts)

 

Break yarn, thread yarn trough remaining sts, pull tight and secure.

Weave in loose ends.
